    با جنس چوب صفحه ی رویی ساز شروع می کنیم. گیتارهای کلاسیکی که دارای صفحه ی رویی از جنس چوب سدر هستند تُن های پر انرژی و زنده ای را تولید می کنند که تفکیک بالایی دارند. این گیتارها صدای گرم و بالانسی دارند. اسپروس یکی از محبوب ترین چوب هاییست که برای صفحه ی رویی گیتارها انتخاب می شود و طول عمر بسیار بالایی دارد؛ این نوع چوب صدا را به شکل فوق العاده ای منتشر می کند. بسیاری از چوب های دیگر هم هستند که برای صفحه ی رویی گیتار استفاده می شوند اما این دو مورد برای قرن ها مورد استفاده قرار گرفته اند.

    قسمت پشت و کناره های گیتارهای کلاسیکی که از چوب رزوود ساخته شده اند، پاسخگویی فرکانسی وسیع و تُن غنی و قدرتمندی را موجب می شود. چوب ماهاگونی (ماهون) تُن زنده و بالانسی را ایجاد می کند. ماهاگونی همچنین برای ایجاد صدایی گرم و دلنشین که تمرکز زیادی روی فرکانس های میانی دارد ایده آل است و موجب می شود غنا و شفافیت فرکانس های بالا تقویت شود. استفاده از چوب میپل (افرا) در قسمت پشت و کناره ها باعث ایجاد صدایی دلنشین و روشن با فرکانس های بالای برجسته می شود؛ همین موضوع باعث شده چوب میپل انتخاب محبوبی برای نوازندگان سبک های فلامنکو و جز باشد.
